- The villians are Lex Luthor and Metallo
- Batman forms a UN type deal to stop Superman from destroying another city
- Aquaman is in it, but not called Aquaman. He’s there because the world engine in the ocean did something to the fish
- Wonderwoman poses as a Wayne Enterprises investor to retrieve an item that belongs to her people.
- Lex Luthor is in the shadows a lot, a manipulator. Not much face time with Superman.
- Robin betrayed Batman at some point, leading to a falling out between them
- The Batcave was super cool looking, and the mobile looked similar to Burton’s
- Lois is investigating Lex.
- Metallo “kills” Clark
- The Daily Planet is bought by Lex Luthor for PR purposes
- At the end Superman is living in exile, and the Justice League is an government approved superhero team.
1) Villains. It's a Superman sequel, so the Superman villains make sense. Lex is perfectly fine, needed for a "Superman" movie, and Deanpool supports Bryan Cranston taking the role if he gets it. Metallo is... interesting. With the heart made of kryptonite, he does seem best fit to present in a Superman sequel if they're planning to find a way to really show Superman's vulnerability to kryptonite. Suppose this is also better than seeing a Bizarro clash with Superman (might just look like the Zodd fight scene). Doomsday anyone? The one responsible for actually killing Superman in the "Death of Superman" arc. With all the facetime he's getting in the Batman/Superman New 52 comic series, Deanpool was hopeful that he'd make his way into this movie. Metallo works, though. Fooled Superman in Justice League: Doom.
2) This is the route we all anticipated for Batman to make his appearance in the Man of Steel sequel. The master tactician is responding as should the rest of the world to Superman's presence and taking the proper precautions. The bigger question is: What city is Bruce Wayne trying to protect? While we may all want to think Gotham, does that really make sense? There must be a deeper reason for Batman to get involved with containing Superman. But we all know he's the perfect man for the job.
3) Aquaman not called Aquaman? Is he simply called by his actual name, Arthur Curry? There were rumors going around that Josh Holloway would be cast for this role (nothing confirmed), but the surprising thing is hearing he would make an appearance so soon. If this rumor is true, Aquaman will be playing is normal role of mediator between the world below the sea and the world above it. But will he be the more diplomatic Aquaman or the Aquaman seeking out who harmed the oceans and looking for vengeance? Deanpool can see it going both ways. Show off Arthur Curry all badass to redeem the lame perspectives that most people have about him. Or be the diplomat looking for peace, which could be his "in" with the Justice League group. But then how would you show off his superpowers as Aquaman, just have him talk to some fish? Please don't do that. Another idea is who would be responsible for the world engine harming the oceans... Wayne Tech, LexCorp tech, or another third party?
4) The Wonder Woman one sounds reasonable as well. It's a good, low-risk way to ease a major character like Wonder Woman into the movie universe without taking the focus away from the main story, i.e. Batman and Superman. Iron Man did it with Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow. She played as an assistant to the CEO of Stark Industries, but had her own agenda to keep an eye on Tony Starks for Director Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. Wonder Woman, or Diana, as she'll probably be called, being an investor in Wayne Enterprises with her own agenda to recover an Amazonian item that Bruce somehow got his hands on isn't too dissimilar. Deanpool wonders if she'll play as one of those foreign investors completely from out of nowhere (but obviously won't straight up say an Amazon from the island Themyscira), or if she'll have some sort of backstory that fans will know is just a front right away. It's a good chance we'll see Gal Gadot doing something along the lines of this rumor.
5) Luthor in the shadows, not much confrontation with Superman. Does he get face time with Clark Kent? Two very different things. Regardless, that's fine. Whether this one ends up in the movie or not doesn't matter to much. There's going to be a LOT of moving parts going on in this movie. The headliner is BATMAN and SUPERMAN sharing the movie screen. It would be smart to save a "Lex vs. Superman" movie for another time where it can have all the hype it deserves. This is Superman's most classic arch-nemesis. Even the Dark Knight and Joker had their own movie, with the side tale of Harvey Dent to help shape the story. Or even having Lex be the main villain against of team of heroes like say, the Justice League, would be better. There aren't too many individual super-villains that fans would be okay with playing the role as antagonist against a league of super heroes. Let him be a manipulator, and hype him up for his next appearance. It would make for a great 3rd movie if Man of Steel goes for a trilogy.
6) The falling out between Robin and Batman. There have been four Robins in Batman's comic book history. More actually, if you count Stephanie Brown and Carrie Kelly (from The Dark Knight Rises). But let's just stick to Dick, Jason, Tim, and Damian. Other than Damian, who's more recent anyways, they've all had a falling out with Batman at one point. It's why they've all moved on to become their own hero: Nightwing, Red Hood, and Red Robin. And it was already rumored that someone would be cast for Nightwing, not Robin. So there's a good chance that this rumor will make it into the final script. The timeline for the movie could be set in middle of the fallout of Dick Grayson's departure as Robin as he takes on the guise of Nightwing. Ben Affleck is meant to play an older Batman, so it makes sense for Dick Grayson to be older and in his Nightwing phase. Now what does betrayal mean? Again, betrayal may just be the equivalent of Dick leaving as Robin to do things on his own. He may even be in Bludhaven instead of Gotham to further distance himself from Bruce. Other than that, Deanpool can't picture any other type of betrayal. Dick is very loyal to Bruce, it would almost be a complete character change if producers made it any kind of larger betrayal. But who knows. Overall, Deanpool doesn't expect a lot of Batman & Robin tag-team scenes.
7) Bat-cave looks super cool. Well, it better.
8) Lois investigating Lex. The main question here is why? What motive does Lois have to investigate Lex? Does he seem shady from the get go? Or is it more of a job thing investigating LexCorp? She may be the one to reveal more and more about Lex's intentions to the audience. Not a big rumor, but does pose some interesting insight into the movie.
9) Metallo "kills" Clark. The guy has kryptonite hidden in his chest. Yes, he's perfectly capable of killing Superman/Clark Kent. With two heroes (possibly three other ones: Nightwing, Wonder Woman, Aquaman) in this mega-movie, Superman doesn't have to be the one to ultimately take down the bad guy, which in this case is rumored to be Metallo. Deanpool has no doubt that Batman would be able to do it on his own if it's Metallo. This could also be a case of "Superman is down, let's unite to take the bad guy down and avenge Superman" type of deal. Plus, a memorial to make it believable that Superman and/or Clark Kent is dead as Kal-El rests in exile. There's even the possibility of Kal remains in exile under the assumption that Earth may not need him with the emergence of these other heroes. Or if "Superman" dies, he can continue undercover as Clark Kent. Or similarly is "Clark Kent" dies for some reason, Kal/Superman can be exiled to do some soul-searching crap.
10) Daily Planet is bought by Lex for PR purposes. This could definitely lead to Lois Lane investigating Lex Luthor. This could also lead to Lex-Clark interactions which are always fun with Lex treating Clark like an awkward, anti-social school boy. Could also set up for a bigger story in another movie? Maybe Lex learns Clark's secret. A lot of potential story lines with this one, but nothing crucial to the immediate storyline... so it seems.
11) Superman exiled. Justice League appointed by the government. Well Superman exiled is addressed above in his "death." The League working with the government is already going to end bad. But still it is a rightful way to set up the much anticipated Justice League movie. There had to be a justified reason for putting the team together. Batman may have just met 2-3 other heroes in this movie alone. It may warrant him to create a team to contain a) the return of Superman and/or b) any other major threats. And who's going to be the handler between the two entities? Steve Trevor? Amanda Waller? Like the current Justice League comic series, working alongside the government isn't as ideal as it seems. If it seems that way at all. These heroes can't be controlled by the government and just wait to be on call for the government's needs. The League may not always be able to follow all the rules that come with being a government approved team, and who knows what the "government's real agenda" may be. But back to the point, this seems like a likely plot line to form an alliance of DC's best heroes.
Only time will tell which rumor will come to fruition and which will fall away into the archives. The movie told as is with these rumors doesn't sound so bad. Even if we know all the key points, the cinematic journey getting to each of these points can still be just as surprising. If there's anything to take away from this (since they're all no more than speculation at this point), it's that the Man of Steel sequel is looking to take a HUGE step forward towards the Justice League project. It's going to be big, it's going to try to tie-in as much as it can without blatantly forcing it down the audience's throat. May 2016 needs to hurry up!
Did you see that Gal Gadot signed on for 3 movies??? So I am guessing Batman VS Superman, Justice League and then whatever follows after that. I still don't know how I feel about her.

Angela's Anxious Life
Thanks for reading Angie! I didn't hear about that, but I'd guess a solo Wonder Woman may be in the making? I'm not so sure about her either (less sure about if she'd be able to hold her own movie) but I'm hopeful!
DeleteI'm liking all of the potential plot points, but gotta be honest- I only see a few ofthem working. Especially bold, I think is the inclusion of Aquaman. I didn't think he'd have enough mainstream approval, but go ahead, DC, prove me wrong.
ReplyDeleteI agree. It sounds difficult to do without obviously looking like they're doing too much with all these supposed plots. I like the idea of Aquaman, but it could easily be a fail with all the attention on Batman, Superman, and the WW appearance. Thanks for reading!
DeleteI think it sounds like a really interesting movie, regardless of whether all these end up being true or not. Long time to wait though - 2016! Sheesh!
ReplyDeleteLove the comic at the end. too funny.
