Rumor on Wonder Woman movie.

NewsFlash will be a new segment of the Comic-Cave where we try to address all the latest comic-related rumors whether they are movies, comics, video games, etc as soon as Deanpool hears about them. And Deanpool gets to incorporate The Flash in the name. Recently edited, read bottom.

The link here talks about the possibility of Wonder Woman having a.... (dun dun dun) Kryptonian origin? The rumor is that Wonder Woman, or all Amazons for that matter, will be descendants of ancient Kryptonians briefly mentioned in the Man of Steel movie who "looked to the stars" to set up Kryptonian outposts. One would imagine that this immediately upset fans of Wonder Woman and DC readers alike (it definitely put Deanpool on such an edge he made me start a new blog segment about it). But this may not necessarily rewrite Wonder Woman's origin. She can still be Amazonian and the Amazons can still have been on the island of Themyscira for thousands of years. Humans of Earth can still believe (or not believe) in the myth of an Amazon race. However, the mystical nature of this myth is now challenged by a more sci-fi-esque background with this added origin of ancient Kryptonians. But like it's said in the article in the link, it's kind of a creative way to explain Wonder Woman's powers. Deanpool believes that the most upsetting aspect is the complete wiping away of Wonder Woman's established origin, and the possibility of wiping away the mythological aspects that her stories presented to the DC universe. Similar to how the Thor movies bring a sense of supernatural, otherworldy powers and characters (dark elves, Aether, Tesseract, Loki) to the Marvel movie universe, Wonder Woman's character could've been used to this advantage.

Now if Wonder Woman is Kryptonian, will she be as powerful as Superman? The article goes on to say that Wonder Woman may actually be "powered down" relative to Superman from Amazons adapting to living on Earth for so many centuries. Wonder Woman weaker than Superman? Will she have a weakness to kryptonite as well? Anyways, Deanpool adds that in the current Justice League comics that not even Batman has a contingency plan set up for Wonder Woman. Batman expects Superman to be the one to take her down if ever needed (which seemed difficult to ask of Superman now that Superman and Wonder Woman apparently have a thing in the New 52 universe). So there's that aspect of it, but now that they're both Kryptonian you'd think it would've been a way to level the playing field, if they were to ever get into a fight. It's unclear as to how they might reveal this (if they even continue to go this route), but would the whole common ancestry thing be a way to kick off a possible relationship between the two? How removed would Wonder Woman's generation be from the original Kryptonian settlers that maybe the only origin she knows of is that she's Amazonian? Also, does that mean all the Amazons have Wonder Woman's powers? In the article, it's mentioned that the idea of JUST Wonder Woman being some how genetically related and the rest of the Amazons still possessing their Amazon mythos. Still though, the idea that Superman is just supposed to automatically have the upperhand is a downgrade to the Wonder Woman character. Not claiming that Superman wouldn't win the fight, but it's nicer knowing that there's not a disadvantage on Wonder Woman's side simply because Amazons have "been on Earth longer."

Anywho, her appearance in the upcoming Superman-Batman movie, according to this same source, may lead to a solo movie. How will that go if we take away all the Amazon mythos? No Ares, Zeus, minotaurs, or other Greek gods. Deanpool would hate to hear that all these are experiments from Krypton as well, playing as Gods and what not. And we guess it all depends on how her appearance in this movie plays out, or how much is revealed about Wonder Woman in this movie. But let's put our faith into the producers at WB/DC, remember this is merely a rumor. Though for some reason it seems believable for the the movie universe to go about this route in order to break away from any relations to the comic issues and create an original story of their own the Hollywood way. Think of our beloved comic issues/stories as an original screenplay, and now these movie producers are doing whatever they can to capture all types of audiences. It's definitely a delicate issue but if they do can do it right, no arguments here. And who knows what else their think-tank can cook up. Maybe something better, and hopefully not anything worse.

Well, after further research, actually someone pointed it out to M. Deanpool, turns out this article has gone from rumor to pure speculation. Batman-On-Film speculating, and people like Deanpool ran with it as a rumor. Lesson learned: do more research. Still going to keep this post up though so people can read about the speculations and possibilities that this could have led to.

Like Flash here, Deanpool likes this Wonder Woman a bit better.
